Reflections

This ‘Reflections’ section brings together 4 series, each focusing in its own way on the magic and optical effects of the play of light on the glass surfaces of contemporary buildings and constructions.
They are grouped around individual themes, whether colourful or conceptual: Black Reflections, Blue Reflections, Cubist Rhythms & Stained Glasses.
They were produced at different times, corresponding to a progression of intellectual development around these interplays of light, colour and structure.

Black Reflections
The first series in chronological terms, “Black Reflections” focuses on the rhythms created, like a musical score, by the reflections of light, lines and colours, in a predominantly black and white palette.
The composition is inspired by the cubist movement, with the aim of recreating, from different angles and in the same image, a dynamic from a static existing.
No retouching or editing is required to make these rhythms visible!

Blue Reflections
This ‘Blue Reflections’ series, which also focuses on the rhythms created by the reflections of light, lines and colours on the glass surfaces of buildings, is constructed in a dominant shade of blue.
Here again, the idea is to decompose and recompose a reality, thanks to the play of light, and so create a new dynamic composition through the recurrence of geometric shapes.
No retouching or editing is required to make these rhythms visible!
Some of the photographs in this series won prizes in the international Neutral Density Photography Awards 2023 in the “Architecture” category. The list of winning photographs can be found in the “Awards” section.

Cubist Rhythms
“Cubist Rhythms” are a work on the jerky, shifting and rhythmic reflections of metal structures and their geometry on glass surfaces.
“Cubist rhythms” because the aim is to create – like Marcel Duchamps’ “Nude descending a staircase” – a “static movement” from an original form broken down and recomposed from different perspectives.
Some of the photographs in this series won prizes in the international Neutral Density Photography Awards 2023 in the “Architecture” category. The list of winning photographs can be found in the “Awards” section.
Original digital photographs, not recomposed, taken in 2008 in the Paris region, France.

Stained Glasses
The series is entitled “Stained Glasses” because, like the latter, these colourful images with their dancing reflections are articulated like mosaics of glass squares set in metal. It’s also a way of questioning the symbolic role of our office buildings and business centres in the place given to them today by our quasi-religious relationship with capitalism and the divine power of money, supplanting the place once occupied by religious buildings at the centre of the city.
“Raw” images, faithful to reality, or “hyperbolic” images of our reality, obtained by simple duplication and mirror effect.
