Urban Cuttings

This section « Urban Cuttings » represents a further and complementary stage in the work undertaken initially, to show a new reality of our cities. The photographs presented here continue to be influenced by Modern Art, and more specifically by the Cubist and Futurist movements.
Playing again on the shapes, lines and colours offered by urban buildings, the aim is to create formal tableaux, radically abstract in their composition and structure, moving ever further away from the primary reality of urban landscapes.
Always following the same starting logic – i.e. starting from a real shot, cutting it up, multiplying it and reorganising it – the initial tangible reference points of these shots are disrupted and rearranged according to a reinvented logic, thus offering a new image of reality.

Cubist Collages
Firmly rooted in the cubist style, these images are constructed as veritable abstract tableaux, where shapes, colours and geometries provide the overall rhythm of the composition.
These photographs share the idea of repeating the original structural elements, reorganised in different orientations to emphasise the permanence and structuring effect of contemporary architectural construction techniques.

Futurist Vision
ÁLike the work of Vieira Da Silva, Giacomo Balla and Filippo Tommaso Marinetti on abstract landscaping and futurism, the photographs here in « Futurist Vision » seek to blur the boundaries between formal shooting and pure abstraction by multiplying the structural elements and visual rhythms they create, so as to disorientate the ‘viewer’ and make him lose his bearings to the point of doubting the concrete, initial reality of the object being viewed.
Here again, the underlying principle is to shake up certainties about the concrete reality of our everyday environment.
Some of the photographs in this series have been nominated for the reFocus Awards 2024 World Photo Annual in the ‘Conceptual Fine Art’ category. The list of winning photographs can be found in the “Awards” section.

Constructivist Patterns
Playing with the repetition of the structural elements of today’s buildings, this series of « Constructivist Patterns » uses the geometric patterns inherent in this practice as the building blocks of a new, reinvented aesthetic.
By highlighting this underlying order, the images created are intended to be a striking illustration of the tendency towards standardisation in our contemporary society, where general harmony is derived from the particular arrangement of the same pre-formatted original form.
